Session 7 – Animal Geeks

20/06/2013

Our first post lunch session was nothing short of surprising. We started off our session with the talented Michael Hearst who wowed the crowd with his musical stylings, humour, and uncanny knowledge on strange creatures.  He performed for us the Chinese Salamander Song, and we have to admit we agree: ice cream trucks do need some new songs.

Switching gears slightly Shin Kubota from Kyoto, Japan spoke about immortal jellyfish.  These jellyfish are able to rejuvenate 10 times in 2 years.  The surprise of this talk was when Shin decided to sing and dance on stage in his native Japanese.  Nothing is shocking at ideacity!

Our final speaker Hendrik Poinar, discussed with us resurrecting extinct creatures such as the wooly mammoth.  He explained to us the importance of his research and displayed many images of his findings to keep the audience enthralled.

Our session on Animal Geeks ended with another stretch break  before our final session of the day: Space.
