The Beaver Manifesto

02/04/2025

“The sturdy, earnest beaver,” to quote Moses from his introduction, is the second largest rodent next to the capybara. With an evolutionary history dating back 30-million years, beavers are a keystone species in North America that has survived ice ages, major droughts, the fur trade, urbanization and near extinction. Glynnis Hood, a professor at the University of Alberta and author of The Beaver Manifesto, focusses her research on wetland ecology as it relates to wildlife habitat and management. She joined us at ideacity in 2011 to talk about this resilient and ecologically important rodent.
