Michael Shara

Dr. Michael Shara is Curator and Curator-in-Charge, Department of Astrophysics, Division of Physical Sciences, and curator of the Einstein exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City (the exhibition is the most comprehensive presentation ever mounted on the life and theories of Einstein).

Prior to joining the Museum in 1999, Shara was with the Space Telescope Science Institute at John Hopkins for 17 years. He received his PhD from Tel-Aviv University, holds a M.Sc. and B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and studied mathematics at McGill University. He has been both visiting and adjunct professor at Columbia University and associate astronomer and astronomer with tenure at the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Shara’s research interests include the structure and evolution of novae and supernovae, collisions between stars and the remnant descendents of those collisions, and the populations of stars inhabiting star clusters and galaxies.
