Ken Wiwa

Ken Wiwa is an author, broadcaster and human rights activist. He is the eldest son of Ken Saro-Wiwa, one of Nigeria’s best-known writers and human rights activists, who was executed by the Nigerian government in 1995 after being convicted for the murder of four tribal chiefs.

Ken Wiwa’s recent book, In the Shadow of a Saint: A Son’s Journey to Understand His Father’s Legacy, was called “riveting, searingly honest, and deeply moving…” and “…a splendid monument to an outstanding man…” by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. It won the 2002 Hurston/Wright legacy Award for non-fiction.

Born in Nigeria and a graduate of the University of London, Wiwa worked for The Guardian and has written for publications around the world. He is the Managing Director of Saros International and a feature writer forThe Globe and Mail.

Wiwa is a Saul Rae Fellow at the Munk Centre for International Studies and a senior resident of Massey College at the University of Toronto.
