Douglas Curran

Douglas Curran is a photographer who has documented everything from alien landing pads in California to Metis settlements in Alberta to secret mask societies in Zimbabwe.

His most recent work, the 2002 version of In Advance of the Landing: Folk Concepts for Outer Space, documents the ideas, rituals and experiences of individuals whose obsession with outer space lead them to create elaborate homemade spaceships and even more elaborate belief systems.

Tom Wolfe called Curran “an extremely gifted reporter” and Chris Carter, the producer of ‘The X-Files’, said: “Douglas Curran has rediscovered the New World”.

Curran has also worked as a stills photographer on over 80 feature and television projects from Baffin Island to Kenya. His clients include Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures; specific films include DrivenGet CarterThe Pledge and Shanghai Noon.

Curran has over 50 solo, traveling, national and international photography exhibitions under his belt. He is also an advanced open water scuba diver.
