Anjani Thomas
Anjani Thomas is a singer/songwriter from Honolulu, Hawaii. After moving to New York in 1984, producer John Lissauer hired her as a background vocalist for Leonard Cohen’s classic recording of Hallelujah, now lauded as one of the greatest modern pop songs of all time. After a stint on Cohen’s Various Positions World Tour 1984-85, Anjani continued to record vocals for him on I’m Your Man (1988), The Future (1992) and Dear Heather (2004). Their collaboration grew in 2006 with the release of Blue Alert, a collection of bittersweet love songs created with Cohen’s lyrics and Anjani’s music and vocals. Anjani is currently recording a sequel to Blue Alert, featuring more tunes co-written with Cohen, as well as Anjani’s solo songwriting skills.
Aside from music, Anjani is also passionate about the benefits of eating a sustainably grown organic diet. After learning of the grave threats to the organic food supply from genetically modified (GMO) crops, she became an informed consumer with a desire to educate others about healthy alternatives to GMO foods, and why the future of farming and food is in jeopardy.
